"Season of Change"

Hiking the Appalachian Trail a couple years ago reaffirmed the constant uncertainty that lies in front of us. Much like a combat mission that never goes perfectly planned, the same holds true with our path in life. The Appalachian Trail is a microcosm of life - there’s a beginning, an end, and so many things in-between…. triumph, loss, joy, pain, misery, and regularly... multiple changes in direction.

On the trail, a double “blaze” marking on a tree represents a change in direction. Sometimes that change in direction leads one up a steep mountain to an amazing vista, through a lush pasture, or, across a formidable river.

"The only constant in life is change, and often times, that change leads us to new paths of discovery, enlightenment, and even transformation”

Compared to a fixed mindset, a growth mindset embraces learning new things and flourishing in uncertainty.…. If you want to take your hike, or life, to the next level, get out of your comfort zone and place yourself in new situations which will enable you to grow, develop, and better understand the environment around you. Engage with people from diverse backgrounds, study a new topic, taste a different food, learn a new hobby, or travel to a foreign land. Ask yourself, “What am I going to do different today???” Simply, walk down a different path….
